Healthy Teeth for the Holidays | El Cajon Dentist

With Christmas rapidly approaching, we all know that the season for binge eating and great celebrating will eventually take over! Christmas is a time in which we all want to celebrate. This includes indulging in the delicious foods that always pop up around this time of year. However, what we don’t realize is that we are damaging out teeth in the process.

The treats, candies, and overall fully decked out meals all contain ingredients that create problems for your teeth. Every time you eat anything that contains sugar, your teeth are under acid attack for up to one hour afterwards. The sugar in your food is broken down by the normal bacteria in your mouth and acid is produced.

Where there is nothing wrong with enjoying yourself during the holidays, keep in mind that you’re going to have to take the necessary steps to help your teeth come out of the holidays strong. It is advised that you enjoy your sweet treats at meal times rather than just randomly eating them throughout your day.

Brush your teeth at the end of the day before bed to ensure that sugar and food debris is removed from your teeth. Try not to brush your teeth immediately after you have finished eating something acidic, as enamel is in a very vulnerable state and prone to tooth erosion.
